Hilarious, insightful, and over-the-top fun, is it any surprise The Miser has been one of Moliere's most beloved comedies for more than 350 years!? In this production, which runs April 19-28 at American River College, director Sam Williams brings out the wit and wisdom of this wonderful farce through audacious movement and whip-quick timing.
The plot revolves around Harpagon, a wealthy old fellow who is so obsessed with money he can hardly see straight. Thus, he pays no attention to his love-sick children Elise and Cléante... until he learns their love interests are both penniless! In his desperate attempts to marry them wealthily (to increase his own coffers), he fails to notice that they are cleverly conspiring behind his back to marry their chosen sweethearts.
But will they succeed? Come see for yourself and enjoy a night of silly romance, hilarious high jinks, and a comic age-old battle of love and money that has brought audiences to their feet for centuries!
